These Terms of Use govern your use of Hunch Call Lab (the "Lab"), a website and app at hunchlab.app operated by Raymond Conklin ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Lab you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, please do not use the Lab.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You must give accurate information, keep your sign-in secure, and hold only one account. You may not use the Lab if the law where you live forbids it, or if we have closed your account. We may ask you to confirm your age and to accept the current Terms before you continue.
The Lab is a free forecasting game. For each question you give a probability that the answer will be Yes. When the question resolves you are scored for accuracy (the Brier score). The Lab is for learning and entertainment.
The Lab is play-only. There is no money, no prize, no wagering and no real-money trading of any kind. Hunch Points and any practice trading features are play points with no cash value: they cannot be bought, sold, traded, transferred, redeemed or cashed out, they are not property, and we may adjust or reset them to keep the game fair. The Lab is not a gambling, betting, securities, commodities or financial product or service. If we ever offer anything involving real money, it would be a separate service with its own terms, eligibility checks and your explicit agreement; nothing in these Terms promises that.
We write the questions and publish the rules for each one, including what counts, what does not, and the public source used to decide it. Results come from those sources. A result may first be provisional and can change during the stated window. We decide the final outcome, and we may correct a result, void a question, or pause one, for example when a source is wrong, unavailable or unclear. Scores and points are then adjusted. We do not guarantee that any question, source or result is accurate or complete. Questions shown in another language are machine-translated for convenience; the English text is the version that counts.
Your handle, forecasts, notes and circle names are yours to choose. Your handle is public. Your notes are private to you. You keep ownership of what you write. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display and process it only as needed to run the Lab, for example to show your handle and accuracy on circles, Call Cards and leaderboards you have chosen. You are responsible for your content and must not post anything that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, misleading, or that infringes anyone's rights or reveals another person's private information. We may remove or change handles, circle names and other content that break these rules.
Do not: use bots or scripts to play, scrape or overload the Lab; get around limits, breaks, exclusions or security; open several accounts to manipulate scores or leaderboards; try to access other people's data or our systems; probe for weaknesses or attack the Lab; send spam or abusive messages through the contact form; pretend to be someone else; or help anyone else do these things. If you find a security problem, please tell us at the email below and give us reasonable time to fix it before you share it.
The Lab offers daily and weekly call limits, breaks, and self-exclusion. A break or self-exclusion cannot be shortened once confirmed, and limits can be lowered at any time but raised only after a waiting period. We may also restrict an account to protect you or others. If play stops being fun, please use these tools and see the Responsible play page for where to find help.
We may warn, restrict, suspend or close an account, or remove content, if we reasonably believe you have broken these Terms or the law, or to protect the Lab or other people. You can stop using the Lab at any time and can delete your account yourself on the My data page. What happens to your information when you delete is described in the Privacy Notice.
The Lab, its software, design, text, questions and brand belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable permission to use the Lab as intended. You may not copy, sell or build a competing service from it. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely without paying you. Names and marks that appear in questions belong to their owners and appear only to describe real events; we are not affiliated with or endorsed by them. Public data from government and other sources remains the property of its publishers.
Scores, Call Cards, the Calibration Trainer and everything else in the Lab are for fun and learning. They are not financial, investment, legal, medical, tax or any other professional advice, and doing well in the Lab says nothing about how you would do with real money or real decisions.
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Lab is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Lab will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that data will never be lost.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Lab. Because the Lab is free, our total liability for all claims relating to it is limited to 100 US dollars. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, and nothing limits any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law where you live.
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover reasonable losses and costs that we suffer because of content you post or because you break these Terms or the law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before starting any claim, please email us and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally. Any claim that cannot be resolved that way must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer, mandatory laws of the place where you live may give you the right to bring a claim there.
The Lab may change, pause or end at any time. We may update these Terms. The current version is shown on this page with its date, and when a change is important we will ask you to accept the new version before you continue to play. If you do not agree to a change, stop using the Lab and delete your account if you wish. If we end the Lab we will try to give notice and a way to export your data.
These Terms and the Privacy Notice are the whole agreement between you and us about the Lab. If a part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce a right, we have not given it up. You may not transfer your account or these Terms; we may transfer ours as part of a sale or reorganisation, and will tell you if your information is affected. We may give you notices by email, by a message in the Lab, or on this page. Where this page is shown in another language, the English text controls.
